The world of European football underwent a dramatic change when Harry Kane left Tottenham Hotspur to join Bayern Munich. The question of what would happen to one of the top strikers in world football if he joined a team that would be contending on all fronts instead of just fighting for a spot in Europe had been around for a long time.
The response was goals aplenty, as many had anticipated. Since coming to Germany, Kane has been in incredible form, and the Bundesliga hasn’t seen many players arrive from outside the country in a different local league and have such an impact. But he affected more than simply his club. Additionally, it was a previous teammate.
Football supporters were taken aback when Kane’s good friend and countryman Eric Dier made the same move from North London to Bavaria less than six months into his stay there. It is thought that Dier did so at the suggestion of his former captain. Even though he had hardly played under Ange Postecoglou throughout that tenure, this was still the case. Although the 31-year-old has been able to secure more consistent playing time in Germany, the country’s media has now had their say on the player over a year after his unexpected arrival.
Dier will sign a new contract with Bayern Munich.
The defender is expected to receive recognition for his recent achievements.
Dier was one of the standout players in every way during Bayern Munich’s recent 3-2 victory over St Pauli, which by their standards was a rather subpar performance. Online publication BavarianFootballWorks praised the England international’s performance, saying that he “was strong on the ball as always, and didn’t look out of place in Vincent Kompany’s all-action back line.”
Dier led the club defensively that evening, performing fifteen defensive actions and recording a 100% tackle success rate. “Despite concerns surrounding his initial transfer to the club, Dier has continuously shown his value in Munich,” read the evaluation of his Bayern tenure.
A contract extension until 2026, which first appeared to be out of the question after being declared surplus to requirements, is now expected to be granted to the former Sporting CP star due to his recent performances. Dier has, however, seized the chance to shine as a result of injuries to other important defenders, and it appears that he will be staying in Munich for a longer period of time.
It’s also evident that his boss and teammates respect the adaptable defender, who can also play in midfield. “A player with a lot of experience,” according to manager Vincent Kompany, “players like Eric have character and always prioritise the team.”
Joshua Kimmich, meantime, has expressed his affection for the Englishman and even called him one of his greatest teammates ever.
“I think Eric Dier is one of the best teammates I’ve ever had when I watch how he prepares every day. We work better as a team when we have this mentality. Despite the fact that he hasn’t played much, he is crucial to our team.
“He will be at training and give it his best if you contact him at six o’clock tonight. We greatly value maintaining a high level of competition and preventing anyone from slacking off and falling behind.”
Dier Speaks on Time at Bayern Munich
The 31-year-old talked about his favourite things about his time in Bavaria.
In March 2025, Dier talked on his first year in Germany and the things he had liked about his time at the new club in an interview with the club’s website.
“You essentially already know what to anticipate because Bayern is such a large club. However, it’s good that the club’s external image matches its internal reality,” the former Three Lions player said. “The Champions League nights at the Allianz Arena are what really stand out to me. Even for gamers who have seen a lot before, the entire scene and the atmosphere are remarkable. You truly start to appreciate this club’s appeal at that point.
When asked what playing for Bayern Munich has meant to him and his career, Dier also provided a very candid response:
“Teammates like Thomas, Manuel, Joshua, even a young man like Jamal Musiala, and everyone else have taught me a lot here. Bayern is unique because of its unique culture, which includes familiarity and coherence. Things happen here without anyone realising it. similar to a large family. That is quite remarkable.
