Kevin De Bruyne, in a personal statement to fans of a Manchester City disposition, has announced that he will be departing the club at the end of the season after 10 years – highlighted by north of 400 games – of outstanding service.
De Bruyne, 33, has won 16 titles (including an amazing six Premier League crowns) since transferring to England’s major league in the summer of 2015. Not only that, but he was a figurehead in his side’s sole Champions League crown as part of their treble-winning campaign in 2022/23.
The Belgian wizard, who is considered by many to be among the greatest foreign players to ever play in England’s top division, signed from VfL Wolfsburg and has since sent a letter of gratitude to the team, the city, and everyone he has met since moving from Germany to England.
Confirming his decision to leave Manchester City, De Bruyne
“That day has arrived, and I should tell you about it first.”
De Bruyne posted on his social media to make sure he arrived before the English media as a whole reported on it. He wrote that his last months at Etihad Stadium would be from now until the end of the 2024–2025 season:
“You can probably see where this is going after seeing this. Let me start by telling everyone that these will be my last few months as a Manchester City player. As football players, we all know that this day will come, even though nothing about it is simple to write. That day has arrived, and I should tell you about it first because you deserve it.”
“I found all of you – and this city – through football,” he added. I was pursuing my passion without realising how drastically this time would alter my life. This city. This club. I got all I needed from these folks. All I could do was return everything! The best part is that we won everything.
“Suri, Rome, Mason, Michele, and I are beyond grateful for what this place has meant to our family,” he added, referring to his personal family and how Manchester will have a particular place in their hearts. “Manchester” will always remain on our children’s passports, but more significantly, it will always be a part of our hearts. Our home will always be here.
“For this ten-year journey, we are incredibly grateful to the city, club, employees, colleagues, friends, and family. Every narrative has a conclusion, but this one has undoubtedly been the greatest. Let’s make the most of our remaining time together.
As previously mentioned, the midfield player’s time at Manchester City has been nothing short of spectacular. Despite wearing a flop due to his unimpressive time at Chelsea before joining the team, De Bruyne has been essential to its success and, as of April 2025, has amassed 106 goals and 174 assists.
