Why VAR did not disallow Diogo Jota’s goal for offside as Gary Neville calls for Premier League rule change

As Gary Neville demands for a change in the rules, the explanation for why Diogo Jota’s goal against Everton was allowed to stand has been disclosed.

As Liverpool welcomed their fierce rivals Everton to Anfield on Wednesday night, they started their pursuit of the Premier League title. Everton is Liverpool’s most hated opponent.

As the Gunners narrowed the deficit to nine points after their 2-1 victory against Fulham on Tuesday night, there was a touch of uneasiness at Anfield despite the fact that the Gunners had just won the match.

However, as Jota scored in the 57th minute to plunge Anfield into a state of complete and utter chaos, the nerves began to ebb away.

In the end, Liverpool managed to secure a much-needed victory by a score of 1-0, so regaining their 12-point advantage at the top of the table with only eight games left to play.

When asked about the decision to allow Jota to score, Everton manager David Moyes expressed his dissatisfaction with the decision after the match.

Luis Diaz, who was returning from an offside position, allegedly made contact with Toffees player James Tarkowski, causing him to have to fall down on the ground in order to clear the ball. This was reported by the Scotsman.

In a short amount of time after that, Diaz executed a deft flick to send the ball into Jota’s path. Jota then gracefully sidestepped two challenges in order to successfully place the ball into the back of the net.

The goal was allowed to stand because “officials in Stockley Park ruled that Diaz did not impact Tarkowski and his ability to play the ball, and therefore did not believe the on-field decision should be overturned,” as reported by The Echo. This indicates that the decision to let the goal to stand was not overturned.

While speaking after the game, Neville, a former defender for Manchester United, expressed his dissatisfaction with the regulations that are now in place.

Following the decision to allow Diogo Jota’s goal, Gary Neville expresses his reaction.
He stated, “When Diaz was offside in the buildup to the Jota goal and the ball gets played down the channel to him and Tarkowski goes to intercept it and he has to stretch for it because Diaz is there.” Jota scored the goal.

“I’m going to complain about that one as a defender because I don’t like it,” she said. They score from it, and I believe there is a clear instance of offside. I am aware that it is not considered offside, but in my opinion, that is offside.

An additional statement made by Neville was as follows: “I believe Diaz is interfering with play because Tarkowski has had to stretch for it.”

“Listen, this has absolutely nothing to do with Liverpool; they were certainly deserving of the victory in the second part of the game. As a defender, I don’t like that one. Diaz was certainly interfering with play, and I disagree with the rule; I don’t like it. I don’t like it.
