Lionel Messi has ‘blocked’ club from taking Club World Cup spot as controversial FIFA decision made

According to reports, Lionel Messi and Inter Miami have prevented another Major League Soccer team from taking part in the 2018 team World Cup football tournament.

A total of thirty-two of the most successful football teams in the world will compete against one another in the Club World Cup, which will be held in the United States of America over the months of June and July.

In addition to Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich, the Premier League will be represented by Manchester City and Chelsea. Other teams who are scheduled to compete in the top league are Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.

The reason that Messi and his current team, Inter Miami, were unable to participate in this year’s competition is due to the fact that there is one club that was prevented from taking part in the competition.

Seattle Sounders FC, along with Inter Miami, are the only Major League Soccer club that will compete in the Club World Cup this summer. They won the Concacaf Champions Cup in 2022, and Messi’s team was handed a sport that was awarded to the nation that is hosting the tournament.

However, Los Angeles FC could be able to make a late entry to the tournament after the Mexican team Club Leon was eliminated from the competition because they did not comply with the league’s requirements on ownership of several clubs.

This competition might have been entered by a number of clubs; however, according to a source from GiveMeSport, the Los Angeles Galaxy were not one of the teams who were considered, despite the fact that they were the winners of the 2024 Major League Soccer Cup.

In accordance with the criteria of the tournament, the only way for a team headquartered in Los Angeles to have qualified for the competition was if they were offered the opportunity to host the event, which was ultimately granted to Inter Miami.

However, Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) may have a chance to earn it in a play-off match after finishing second to Leon in the 2023 Concacaf Champions League. This is due to the fact that Seattle Sounders FC were able to take one of the spaces that were made available to Concacaf.

If Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) wishes to secure a spot in the Club World Cup this summer, they will need to win the match against Club America, the team that is now ranked first in the Concacaf standings.

“Fifa can confirm that it is considering one play-off match between LAFC and Club America for the right to participate in the Fifa Club World Cup 2025,” stated the official statement issued by Fifa in order to announce the possibility of a meeting between the two teams.
