Fans spot what Virgil van Dijk did to James Tarkowski in off-the-ball moment after controversial VAR decision

After the Everton defender averted a red card for a’reckless’ tackle on Alexis Mac Allister, viewers with keen eyes immediately saw what Virgil van Dijk did to James Tarkowski.

After sliding in to win the ball in the first half, Tarkowski made contact with Mac Allister’s leg during his follow-through. This occurred after Tarkowski had won the ball.

The referee, Samuel Barrott, issued him a yellow card on the pitch of play. The video assistant referee, Paul Tierney, then made the decision not to propose a change of verdict to a red card.

When it comes to the Premier League, the Everton defender has now tied Oriol Romeu for the record for the most yellow cards without a red card in the history of the Premier League (63).

It was determined by the Premier League Match Centre that the tackle was “reckless,” yet it was deemed to be acceptable enough to warrant a booking rather than a departure from the game.

On the other hand, in contrast to the 2-2 tie that occurred at Goodison Park in February, Tarkowski was unable to motivate Everton to get a result in this meeting at Anfield.

The single goal of the match was scored by Diogo Jota in the second half, which allowed Liverpool to earn a 1-0 victory. As a result, Liverpool can now move 12 points ahead of Arsenal, who are now in second place in the Premier League standings.

The’revenge’ that Van Dijk received was for the tackle that Tarkowski made on Mac Allister.

There was a confrontation between the two players in the penalty area during the second half, which was not related to the ball. The Liverpool captain shoved his opponent to the ground during the incident.

Tarkowski, on the other hand, simply dismissed the event and stood back up after what had happened.

Later on, when the game was over, he would approach Mac Allister to talk about the tackle, although it was unclear what either of them had to say about it.

When asked about the incident, Everton manager David Moyes gave the following statement to Sky Sports after the game: “My first thought was that it was a brilliant tackle for a derby game.”

“It was a tackle that perhaps we would have seen a few years ago, but I understand that things are slightly different now, with follows through and other things like that,” the speaker said.

“Yeah, we might have got a bit lucky.”
