Sir Alex Ferguson phones up player Man Utd sold 11 years ago after admitting club should never have sold him

An individual who Manchester United had sold more than ten years ago was recently contacted by Sir Alex Ferguson via telephone.

During Ferguson’s lengthy tenure as manager of Manchester United, the club amassed a number of trophies, including thirteen Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues, and other honours.

At Old Trafford, numerous managers have attempted to bring glory back to the club since the Scotsman retired in 2013, but they have been unsuccessful.

The striker Danny Welbeck was sold to Arsenal, United’s rivals, for a reported fee of sixteen million pounds in 2014. This occurred in 2014, when United parted ways with Welbeck.

The question was posed to Rene Meulensteen, who was working as Ferguson’s assistant at United at the time, regarding whether or not the legendary player would have approved of the Welbeck transfer.

In response, the Dutchman stated, “No, most certainly not.” When you look back through the history of Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, you will notice that we have always been eager to bring up young players and give them a chance to play.

“People keep saying about Danny Welbeck not scoring enough goals but you have to look at the people with him and in front of him and how many games has he really played in his preferred position?”

Following his time with the Gunners, Welbeck went on to score 32 goals in 126 matches before making the move to Watford in 2019.

After that, in the year 2020, the Englishman moved on from Watford to join Brighton and Hove Albion. In the 152 matches that have taken place since then, the 34-year-old player has scored 34 goals for the Seagulls.

After scoring a goal in an FA Cup match against Newcastle United, Welbeck disclosed in a recent interview that he was contacted by Ferguson via telephone because of his performance.

“I believe he [Ferguson] was away in South Africa when he rang me after the Newcastle goal, and he was talking about the goal and the performance,” Welbeck said in an interview with the BBC.

It is always ‘No caller ID’ that rings, and all I could say was ‘Hello’ to the person who did it. There are times when I don’t even answer because I don’t know who it is going to be, but it was him, and he was just buzzing.

He continued by saying: “To have that connection… he’s a manager who was always looking out for his players, always wants the best for him and still to this day we’re still in contact.”
