Though there were already indications that the 24-year-old was becoming valuable, Argentina’s recent 4-1 thumping of Brazil was the clearest example of his genius.
Argentina now leads the South American qualifying table with 10 victories in 14 games, and Tuesday night’s victory guaranteed their spot at the 2026 World Cup. However, Fernandez’s dominant performance had more than just the world champions drooling; Chelsea supporters were also ecstatic about what many are describing as a performance for the ages.

Fernandez put on a terrible show against Brazil while playing a strange and more offensive role in Lionel Messi’s absence. He won seven of his total duels, both on the ground and in the air, and scored, assisted, and completed all of his crosses and dribbling attempts throughout his 90-minute cameo. Chelsea supporters were enthralled with the performance on social media, and the club’s official account was closely monitoring the action. The administrator praised him with two different postings of gratitude, one captioned “Baller” and the other, “Wow, what a performance!”
One Blues supporter said elsewhere: “Never questioned his skills! Baller! As one person continued, “That’s it, I’m naming my first child Enzo.” “Give him two defensive midfielders and play him up front just behind the striker.” A third user added even more accolades, stating:
“What a player, my god. “THE PLAYER IS AMAZING!”

Nonetheless, there were some doubts about Fernandez’s ability to translate his national team performances into club performances. One person asked, “How would you suggest Chelsea get the best out of him next season?” Another user said, “The annoying part is that he won’t do the same for Chelsea.”
