Liverpool ‘make early decision’ on Federico Chiesa’s future after playing just 25 minutes in Premier League

There have been reports that Liverpool have already made a decision regarding the future of Federico Chiesa.

In the summer of 2024, Chiesa, who was 27 years old at the time, moved from Juventus to Liverpool in a deal that was worth £10 million, with an additional £2.5 million in performance-based add-ons.

And despite the fact that Arne Slot’s team is having what looks like it will be a successful Premier League season, the Italy international has had a difficult time finding playing time. He has only played 25 minutes in the league, and the majority of his 11 appearances have been in cup competitions.

Despite the fact that Chiesa has contributed two goals and two assists in his eleven appearances, Slot, who is 46 years old, has a tendency to rely on players such as Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott when his team needs an impact originating from the bench.

In a recent interview, the Dutchman explained the reason why some of his players are rarely seen on the pitch.

During a press conference earlier this month, Slot stated, “That is of course more difficult [bedding players in] because these players hardly train with the starters if you look at our schedule in the last three or four months.” As a result, “Bedding players in” is a more difficult task.

For instance, if we play on Saturday and then play again on Tuesday, then on Sunday, the players who played on Saturday will only participate in a recovery session, which means they will not be given the opportunity to play on the pitch.

After that, there is the day before the game, which consists of maybe ten to fifteen minutes of tactics, during which the game is more like walking football than actual football. There is therefore very little opportunity for them to compete with one another at any given time.

On the other hand, the day after the game, I am always outside, my assistants are doing great exercises, and the players always show themselves and their abilities during these moments.

These are the times when you can demonstrate where you are. It is important to consider whether you have improved or not, as well as whether you have become more familiar with the players who are starting, and of course, when they come in off the bench.

In light of this, what does Chiesa’s future hold?

According to Football Italia, Liverpool has “decided to part ways” with the 27-year-old player. This information comes from the Italian publication.

It is said that Antonio Conte’s Napoli team, which is vying for the title, is “keen” on the winger, and that the former Chelsea manager sees him as a potential “valuable addition” to his squad.

It was also reported by the outlet that Italy’s head coach Luciano Spalletti would be pleased to see Chiesa return to Serie A. Spalletti ‘believes’ that Chiesa could be an important member of Italy’s squad as they prepare for the 2026 World Cup.

Chiesa is currently under contract with Liverpool until June 2028 and has a value of £15.2 million according to Transfermarkt.
