After scoring on his first game for England, which was against Albania, Myles Lewis-Skelly, a star player for Arsenal, has made history.
Thomas Tuchel got his first taste of his new role as England’s head coach on Friday night, when the Three Lions played Albania in a World Cup qualifying match.
After the departure of Gareth Southgate as manager of England in October, Tuchel, who had previously held managerial positions at Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, and Chelsea, agreed to take over the position.
Although Tuchel started his new job as manager of the Three Lions in January, he was required to wait two months before he could take charge of his first official match.
A number of players, including Lewis-Skelly and Dan Burn, a defender for Newcastle United, made their first appearances in full during the German manager’s first match in charge.
From the very beginning of the match, England was in complete control of the situation as they attempted to penetrate the resolute Albanian defence.
Eventually, with twenty minutes remaining on the clock, England opened the scoring with a goal scored by Lewis-Skelly, who was able to capitalise on a breathtaking pass from Jude Bellingham.
When the 18-year-old player was inside the penalty area, he displayed an incredible amount of composure in order to put the ball into the back of the net.
Lewis-Skelly has made a significant contribution to the annals of history by scoring on his first senior England match.
According to Opta Joe, who posted the following on social media: “Aged 18 years and 176 days, Myles Lewis-Skelly is the youngest player in history to score on his senior England debut, surpassing Marcus Rashford’s record of 18 years and 209 days v Australia in May 2016.”
When asked about the goal, former England defender Matt Upson said, “I think Thomas Tuchel struggled to hide a smile there – he was so happy with that goal.” Upson made this statement while speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live. When it comes to Myles Lewis-Skelly’s scoring, Jude Bellingham is a significant contributor. Bellingham was very central to the pass, and he does a lovely turn and comes back on himself. The weight of the pass was not in his favour.
“Even though it is a straightforward run, Lewis-Skelly recognises the opportunity and he goes for it. It is a straightforward stroke into the goal.
