As of just under three months before the tournament, FIFA has announced that a club has been eliminated from the FIFA Club World Cup.
On June 14, the United States of America will play host to the premiere of the new look tournament, which will feature 32 teams from all over the world competing for the main prize.
With Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan, and Chelsea among the teams that will be competing in the month-long event, it is important to note that one club has already been eliminated from the competition that will take place this summer.
Club Leon, a Mexican club, was “removed” from the competition on Friday, according to FIFA, which confirmed that the club had “failed to meet the criteria on multi-club ownership.” A replacement team is scheduled to be announced at a later date.
“Following disciplinary proceedings opened against CF Pachuca and Club León, the chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee decided to refer the case directly to the FIFA Appeal Committee in accordance with article 56 paragraph 3 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code,” according to an official statement issued by FIFA.
CF Pachuca and Club León were unable to satisfy the criteria on multi-club ownership that were outlined in article 10 paragraph 1 of the Regulations for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025TM, according to the chairman of the FIFA Appeal Committee, who made this decision after reviewing all of the evidence that was submitted.
“In line with article 10 paragraph 4 of the Regulations for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™ , FIFA has determined that Club León will be removed from the competition, with the club to be admitted as a replacement to be announced in due course.”
