It has come to light that Thomas Tuchel will be making his debut in the England dugout on Friday evening against Albania. The news comes ahead of his first ever matchday squad for England.
Tuchel officially began his reign as England’s manager in January, after having signed a contract to succeed Gareth Southgate in October. He will lead England for the first time in a World Cup qualifier at Wembley Stadium.
Almost immediately, he made his mark on the team by bringing back Jordan Henderson, Marcus Rashford, and Reece James into the fold. Additionally, he put Dan Burn and Myles-Lewis Skelly into the lineup for the very first time.
Morgan Gibbs-White, who plays for Nottingham Forest, was called in as a replacement after initially not making the cut. Tuchel chose a squad of 26 players and was forced to make an early change because Cole Palmer was experiencing fitness issues.
Although the rules of UEFA stipulate that only 23 players can be included for a match, Tuchel is required to leave three players out of his squad in order to comply with the regulations.
It has been reported by Sami Mokbel of the BBC that Gibbs-White, along with Jarell Quansah and Aaron Ramsdale, has been excluded from the competition.
In order to improve their chances of being selected for the match against Latvia on Monday, the three players will therefore be observing the game from the stands.
A complete list of England’s 23-man squad:
Crystal Palace’s Dean Henderson, Everton’s Jordan Pickford, and Burnley’s James Trafford are examples of professional goalkeepers.
Among the defenders are the following: Dan Burn (Newcastle United), Levi Colwill (Chelsea), Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace), Reece James (Chelsea), Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa), Myles Lewis-Skelly (Arsenal), Tino Livramento (Newcastle United), and Kyle Walker (AC Milan, on loan from Manchester City).
Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham, Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, Ajax’s Jordan Henderson, Liverpool’s Curtis Jones, and Arsenal’s Declan Rice are all examples of players who play in the midfield position.
Jarrod Bowen who plays for West Ham United, Phil Foden who plays for Manchester City, Anthony Gordon who plays for Newcastle United, Harry Kane who plays for Bayern Munich, Marcus Rashford who plays for Aston Villa and is on loan from Manchester United, and Dominic Solanke who plays for Tottenham Hotspur are all forwards.
There has been a lack of information regarding the starting eleven, but as far as the Three Lions are concerned, it is anticipated that captain Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, and Declan Rice will all be starting.
It has been reported by Sky Sports that Tuchel is anticipated to play a back four in his first game as head coach, despite the fact that he has not disclosed any information regarding the system he intends to use.
His accomplishments as a back with a three included winning the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021, which was one of his most notable accomplishments.
In the hours leading up to his first game, Tuchel seemed to be making a dig at Southgate’s strategy at the 2024 European Championship, where England advanced to the final but ultimately fell to Spain in the final.
The fact that England were “more afraid to drop out of the tournament than having the excitement and hunger to win it” was one of the things that Tuchel brought up in his interview with ITV.
In addition, the former manager of Bayern Munich stated that the team did not have a distinct playing style and that they lacked the freedom and expression to express themselves.L
