In a shocking turn of events, Sir Alex Ferguson, a legend of Manchester United, is planning to return to management this coming weekend.
Due to the fact that he managed United to win an astounding total of 38 trophies, Ferguson is widely considered to be the best football manager in the history of his profession.
The legendary manager was in charge of Old Trafford for a total of 26 seasons before deciding to call it quits on his career and retiring from management in 2013. This decision was made after he had won one single trophy during his tenure.
On the other hand, Ferguson has shocked fans after it was announced that he will return to the dugout after accepting a new job this weekend. This comes after he had retired from the sport twelve years ago.
Giuseppe Rossi, a striker who had previously played for United, Villarreal, Fiorentina, and Italy, retired from professional football in 2023. However, he has made the decision to host a farewell game in Florence on March 22.
The match will take place at the Stadio Franchi in Florence, and Ferguson, who was the one who gave Rossi his first senior appearance in 2004, will be present in a coaching capacity for the match.
The former United striker was quoted as saying, “Ferguson will be there as a coach,” according to The Sun reports.
“When I was 17 years old, I signed with him as my first coach.
The fact that he accepted my offer so quickly demonstrates the kind of person he is. I had only worked with him for three years and played a small role during that time.
“I did little at United but he treats me like Cristiano Ronaldo, who has scored 1000 goals.”
In November of 2004, Rossi made his debut for Manchester United in a League Cup match against Crystal Palace. However, he only played for the Red Devils for a total of 14 times, scoring four goals during his time with the club.
The striker signed a permanent contract with Villarreal in 2007, after having previously played on loan for Newcastle United and Parma of the Serie A. During his time with Villarreal, he ended up scoring 82 goals in 192 matches.
When Rossi eventually joined Fiorentina, he scored 19 goals in just 42 appearances for the Italian side. Later on, he went on to play for Levante, Celta Vigo, Genoa, Real Salt Lake, and SPAL. Unfortunately, injuries prevented him from playing for Fiorentina.
Rossi’s “last dance” match will feature a number of other football legends who played a significant role in his career. Gabriel Batistuta, Luca Toni, Antonio Cassano, Sebastien Frey, and Borja Valero are all scheduled to participate in the match.
