When Thomas Tuchel watched the Euro 2024 final last summer, he made a clear demand of his England players. In his final match as manager of the Three Lions, Gareth Southgate, the German coach’s predecessor, almost missed winning England’s first major trophy since 1966.

Although England’s Cole Palmer equalised in the 73rd minute, Southgate’s team had little reason to be upset about the defeat.
Tuchel has clearly ordered his England players to talk more to each other during challenging parts of games after watching game tape. After Williams put La Roja ahead, the former Chelsea manager observed that communication deteriorated.
The second half of the Euro 2024 Final saw a “significant reduction” in England’s communication.
Tuchel presented his team a visual showing how player interactions “reduced significantly” in the second half, according to The Guardian. Compared to 60 in the first half, England’s interactions—the quantity of times players spoke to one another—dropped to 35 after halftime.
