The supporters of Manchester United have taken to social media in order to acknowledge that they are obligated to offer an apology to one of their players as a result of his performance against Real Sociedad.
In the second leg of their Europa League match, which took place on Thursday night, Manchester United played host to Real Sociedad, a Spanish club, at Old Trafford.
Due to the fact that the first match between the two teams, which took place at the Reale Arena the previous week, ended in a 1-1 draw, the winner of the match that will take place on Thursday will advance to the next round.
A pair of penalties and a late goal, all of which were scored by United’s captain Bruno Fernandes, secured the team’s spot in the quarterfinals. Fans have taken to social media to express their regret to a specific player for United’s performance.
Joshua Zirkzee has been under a great deal of pressure ever since he was acquired by Manchester United from the Serie A club Bologna for a fee of £36.5 million during the summer of that previous year. United supporters have been consistently unimpressed by his performances for the club.
However, everything changed on Thursday at Old Trafford because Zirkzee put in one of his best performances in a United shirt, and it was not unnoticed by anyone. This was despite the fact that he did not get his name on the scoresheet while playing for United.
In response to Zirkzee’s performance in the Europa League match, a fan posted the following message on social media: “I’m starting to love watching Zirkzee play.” It seems that I am turning into a big fan.
Furthermore, another individual stated, “I wasn’t his biggest fan, but Zirkzee is getting better and better.”
As one of them admitted, “Zirkzee, I am indebted to you for an apology.” This is a performance that I will not forget in the near future.
Furthermore, one of them asserted that “Zirkzee is the brother who stepped up.”
“Joshua Zirkzee, I was not familiar with your game,” responded a fan in a humorous manner. We are taking note of it.”
Although Zirkzee has made 42 appearances for United, he has only scored six goals and assisted on two others. As a result, there have been rumours that he may be leaving the club less than a year after he joined.
In spite of the fact that United has had a disappointing season up to this point, the young Dutchman may have been able to convince some of his critics to change their minds after his most recent performance. He was instrumental in keeping United in the running for trophies.
United will face Ligue 1 side Lyon in the Europa League quarter-finals, with the two legs set to get underway on the 10th and 17th of April.
