The host of TNT Sports, Jules Breach, concurred with Karen Carney’s damning assessment of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s comments regarding Manchester United prior to their match against Real Sociedad.
The coverage of Man United’s Europa League match against Sociedad that took place on Thursday was provided by TNT Sports, and Breach was joined by Carney and Paul Scholes for the broadcast.
Following the announcement made by Ratcliffe, Carney and Scholes discussed their thoughts on the plans that Manchester United has to construct a new stadium prior to the game’s start.
Prior to revealing his proposed plans, Ratcliffe had previously given interviews to the BBC and Gary Neville, during which the businessman disclosed the realistic situation regarding the club’s financial situation.
He acknowledged that he is still primarily concerned with the men’s team, even though he made reference to the women’s team.
“My main focus is on the men’s team because that is what moves the needle at Manchester United,” he stated to the British television network.
When compared to the men’s team, the women’s team is significantly smaller. The men’s team contributes £640 million to our total income, while the women’s team contributes £10 million. Our total income is £650 million.
“With my business background you tend to focus on the bigger issues before you focus on the smaller issues.”
As she took exception to Ratcliffe’s remarks regarding Manchester United’s women’s team, Carney voiced her dissatisfaction with the situation.
“No one expects Man United not to be focused on the men’s team, but it is disappointing and honestly surprising that a club with such a history of being forward thinking and world-leading not to be investing in one of the fastest growing areas of sport,” according to her explanation.
“So, for me, it’s disappointing, and when you look at Manchester United, I thought that was what it stood for. I thought they wanted to be the best in class leaders in their field.
“For me it’s sad and I’m disappointed and I hope that changes I hope it changes his thought process on that well said all right back to the task.”
Immediately following Carney’s articulation of her emotions, Breach responded, “Well said.”
In the meantime, Scholes provided his opinion on Ratcliffe’s plans to construct the largest stadium in the United Kingdom, which could cost up to two billion pounds.
I felt a great deal of excitement about it. There are a lot of memories that I have associated with this stadium. However, let me tell you that I have performed in some of the most prestigious stadiums in the world,” he stated.
“When you think of great history, you bring to mind the Bernabéu, the Nou Camps, and the San Siros. And this place has got that type of history for me as well. But I think it’s about time that Man United caught up, stadium-wise.
“As much as this will be sad to say goodbye to, I think the time is right to move to a new, better, bigger, brilliant stadium that this one looks like it’s going to be.”
