Mark Goldbridge says ‘it’s ridiculous’ after hearing how much Kobbie Mainoo wants in wages to stay at Man Utd

It has been reported that Manchester United have engaged in “fresh talks” with Kobbie Mainoo, a midfielder, in order to discuss a new contract. However, Mark Goldbridge is not pleased with the demands that Mainoo is allegedly making.

Mainoo, who is 19 years old, has participated in contract negotiations for a considerable amount of time. He made his debut with the senior team of Manchester United during the 2023–2024 season, where he was coached by Erik ten Hag.

However, his 2024/25 season has been severely disrupted by injuries, and the young man is currently unable to play because he suffered a muscle injury in the beginning of February.

Even though the 19-year-old has not scored or assisted on a single goal in his 18 Premier League appearances so far this season, it is clear that he possesses a great deal of talent. If the environment that he is surrounded by is favourable, he has the potential to develop into a player of world-class calibre; however, it is not yet clear whether this will occur at United.

It was reported by the Mail in January that Chelsea were “ready to make a move” for the player because he “cannot agree terms” with United regarding a new contract. The player’s current deal is scheduled to expire in the summer of 2027.

According to Capology, Mainoo is currently one of the players at the club who make the least amount of money, earning a weekly salary of twenty thousand pounds.

An update on the situation was provided by the Mail on March 4th, and it was explained that although “fresh talks” were taking place between Mainoo and the club, his “representatives want a pay rise to £180,000-a-week plus bonuses which would bring him in line with his teammates.”

In addition, considering his potential, one could argue that this would be a reasonable amount; however, Goldbridge, a popular YouTuber and United supporter whose real name is Brent Di Cesare, strongly disagrees with this assessment.

Goldbridge wrote on X, “Eighty thousand dollars a week for Mainoo lol.”

This is a ridiculous statement, if it is true.

Mainoo’s alleged demands were also discussed by his followers on various social media platforms.

A particular individual stated: “There are worse players at double wages if you forget their past and only judge them in current form and their future prospect.”

Another person added, “I would rather just sell him because his athleticism and injuries are so concerning to me… he never appears to be very fit and always appears exhausted on the pitch.” At such a young age, the player is suffering from an increasing number of injuries.

While a third individual made the following observation: “The same individuals who are complaining that the wage is excessive are the same individuals who will be angry if he is sold.”
