The manager of a Premier League club is considered a “target” for a team that has participated in the Champions League that is currently being played.
Marco Rose, who is currently serving as the head coach of RB Leipzig, is reportedly being considered for a possible departure.
Following his time as a manager at RB Salzburg, Borussia Monchengladbach, and Borussia Dortmund, Rose, who is now 48 years old, became a member of the club in 2022.
However, things have not gone as well as he may have hoped for this season, as Leipzig is currently in sixth place in the Bundesliga. Prior to this, Leipzig was eliminated from the Champions League in the group phase of the 36-team competition with only one win from eight matches, and they finished in a dismal 34th place.
Tribal Football reports that as a consequence of this, Jurgen Klopp, the Global Head of Soccer for Red Bull and a former manager of Liverpool, has compiled a shortlist of three potential replacements for Rose.
Sebastian Hoeness, the manager of Stuttgart, and Roger Schmidt, the head coach of Benfica, are both represented on the list.
Oliver Glasner, the manager of Crystal Palace, is the third individual on the list. Glasner has an extensive history of managing in Germany, having worked with Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt.
Klopp’s admiration for Glasner, who is fifty years old, is not a secret.
“Oliver is someone whose work I know pretty well as he is a manager who did a really good job in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt before moving to Palace earlier this year,” Klopp said in his programme notes in April 2024. “Oliver is someone whose work I know pretty well.”
I would say that Oliver is a wise choice because of his record, reputation, and ability. Though it would not be easy for anyone to replace a club legend like Roy Hodgson, Oliver is a good candidate. It is not clear to me how well known he was in England prior to his arrival in the Premier League; however, his curriculum vitae speaks for itself, and it even includes a Europa League trophy, which he won with Frankfurt a couple of years ago.
Even though Oliver has only been in this country for a short period of time, you can already observe his methods and the work that he has been doing start to show at Palace. Because of this and a great number of other reasons, not the least of which is the calibre of their players, we ought to get ready for a proper test today because it is obvious that one is going to come.
Given the fact that Leipzig is currently in a good position in the Premier League, it is not clear whether or not Glasner would leave Palace for Leipzig.
The Eagles demanded a compensation fee of £86 million, according to the Express, which caused Bayern Munich’s interest in bringing the 50-year-old player to the club to wane. It was widely reported that Bayern Munich was interested in bringing the player before the summer of last year. If Palace chairman Steve Parish were to allow the Austrian to join Leipzig, he would most likely demand a fee that is comparable to what the Austrian offers.
