Man Utd Could Sell ‘Incredible’ Star Amorim Wants to Keep

Manchester United may want to sell Alejandro Garnacho this summer after receiving offers for the Argentine winger during the January transfer window, according to Ben Jacobs of GIVEMESPORT.

Garnacho’s future was a big topic of discussion throughout the winter transfer window, with Napoli and Chelsea showing interest in the Red Devils academy graduate. The Serie A club’s £40 million deal for the 20-year-old, who was supposed to replace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia when the Georgian forward joined Paris Saint-Germain, fell through.

The United locker room was believed to be’relieved’. Garnacho remained put after the window crashed shut, and he earned the faith of coach Ruben Amorim with several good performances. This season, he has made 38 appearances across competitions, scoring eight goals and assisting six times.

The Premier League giants are desperate to balance the books at Old Trafford, where the club remains £731 million in debt despite Jim Ratcliffe’s investment. Their precarious financial status has made every member of Amorim’s team accessible for a reasonable price, including Garnacho.

Manchester United is prepared to listen to offers for Garnacho.
The Argentine sale would be enormously advantageous from a financial standpoint.

Garnacho appeared to be on his way to superstardom at United when he excelled for the Red Devils last season, netting the opening goal in their FA Cup final victory over Manchester City. He struggled at the start of the current season, being dropped by Amorim in the Manchester Derby in December, but he won over his manager by working hard, and the Portuguese are allegedly keen to keep him.

Jacobs detailed the club’s position on several high-profile players’ futures moving into the summer, including Marcus Rashford (on loan at Aston Villa), Antony (on loan at Real Betis), and Casemiro, who are expected to be available for sale:

“There is an understanding, whether at Aston Villa or elsewhere, that Marcus Rashford will leave the club permanently in the summer. The same may be true for Antony. There will be offers for Casemiro, a player Manchester United is willing to release from their payroll.”

Garnacho, earlier praised by colleague Rasmus Hojlund as a ‘great’ talent, is also a possible contender for sale, though this appears to be a financial decision rather than a sports one.

“There is still a feeling, even if it would be a reluctant sale, that Alejandro Garnacho is a player on the books who could be very valuable, and in the same way that Manchester United would have considered a sale in January, it will be the case again for financial reasons in the summer.”

In January, Sky Sports stated that if United sold Garnacho for their £60 million asking price, it would help solve’most of their financial problems’ and allow the Red Devils to spend £180 million without fearing PSR breaches.

Garnacho, who does not even rank among the club’s top 20 highest salaries, has been at Old Trafford since July 2022, when he joined from Atletico Madrid’s development system. He will have three years left on his contract in the summer, but he might be one of the key players in Ratcliffe and INEOS’s efforts to repay the Glazers’ debts to the club.
