After Edu’s shock departure from the Gunners and his agreement to take up a position with Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, Josh Kroenke has made a vow to ARSENAL fans.
In July 2019, Edu became Arsenal’s technical director. He later became the club’s first-ever sporting director in November 2022. The 46-year-old has a strong relationship with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, with whom he has rebuilt Arsenal into title contenders through the acquisition of high-quality players in recent seasons. This has significantly positioned Arsenal ahead of Liverpool and Manchester United.
After taking some personal time, he has now decided to quit the club. He has been responsible for the acquisitions of Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice, and he has also assisted in the offloading of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mesut Ozil.
Arsenal verified the news on Monday evening, which is believed to be solely Edu’s decision. The role with Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is yet to be confirmed, and a formal agreement has not yet been finalized.
Kroenke has made a commitment to Arsenal fans by acknowledging that the club’s objectives will remain unchanged in the wake of the former Gunner’s departure. “We acknowledge Edu’s decision and express our gratitude for his significant contributions and commitment to the club’s progress,” Kroenke stated.
“Our club’s DNA is characterized by change and evolution.” We continue to concentrate on our strategy and the acquisition of significant mementos. This ongoing aspiration will be reflected in our succession plan.
“I have cherished the opportunity to collaborate with a multitude of exceptional colleagues from our men’s, women’s, and academy teams, particularly Mikel, who has developed into a close friend.”
‘It is now time to embark on a new challenge. ARSENAL will forever be a part of my spirit. I extend my fondest wishes to the club and its supporters for success and happiness.
