According to reports, Manchester United has selected their preferred candidate to succeed Erik ten Hag.
In a statement issued on Monday, Manchester United announced that Erik ten Hag had resigned from his position as the first-team manager of the men’s team. Erik was appointed in April 2022 and guided the club to two domestic trophies: the FA Cup in 2024 and the Carabao Cup in 2023.

“We are appreciative of Erik’s contributions during his tenure with us and extend our best wishes for his future endeavors.”

As the club commences its search for a new permanent manager, former striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has been appointed as interim manager.

United is reportedly in the process of identifying a successor for the Dutchman, mere hours after his dismissal.

The position has been associated with Thomas Frank, Julian Nagelsmann, Zinedine Zidane, and Gareth Southgate; however, it has been suggested that Ruben Amorim, the manager of Sporting Lisbon, may be the preferable candidate.

In an exclusive post on social media, David Ornstein of The Athletic reported that Manchester United is in the process of finalizing an agreement to hire Ruben Amorim as their head coach. #MUFC is prepared to fulfill the €10 million release clause and is currently in negotiations with #SportingCP to complete the transaction. The report indicated that Manchester United is in the process of finalizing a contract with Ruben Amorim, the head coach of Sporting Lisbon, to serve as their new head coach.

The two clubs are in negotiations to finalize an agreement that could see Ruud van Nistelrooy take interim charge before Amorim’s arrival, and United are prepared to pay the €10 million (£8.3m) release clause in his contract.

During the summer, Amorim was associated with other Premier League rivals, including Liverpool and West Ham, prior to United’s interest. Nevertheless, no agreement was reached, and the Portuguese remained with Sporting.
