BREAKING: Premier League confirm major broadcast decision set to impact Newcastle United, Aston Villa & co

The sale of the UK live radio commentary rights for the upcoming four seasons has been completed by the Premier League.
Six packages for live UK radio commentary of Premier League games over the following four seasons have been given to BBC Radio 5 Live and talkSPORT. Under the agreement, the two stations will continue to provide live Premier League radio commentary through the end of the 2028–2029 season.

“We are delighted to continue our long-term partnerships with the BBC and talkSPORT, who have both consistently delivered outstanding live Premier League football across a broad range of platforms,” stated Paul Molnar, the Premier League’s chief media officer, in reference to the agreement. We look forward to collaborating with both organizations over the next four seasons because of their valuable live commentary and broader programming for Premier League fans around the UK.

Even though it’s not as profitable as the Premier League clubs’ TV market, every broadcast package the league sells helps its member teams’ finances, and for Newcastle United, it might be crucial in helping them get beyond the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules. This summer, in order to comply with PSR and prevent a points deduction, the Magpies and teams like Aston Villa were compelled to sell players.

With an in-form Elliot Anderson in their lineup, Eddie Howe’s team will play Nottingham Forest this weekend and experience firsthand what that decision means to them. In the summer, Anderson paid £35 million to move to the City Ground, while Brighton also purchased Yankuba Minteh.
