Man City boss Pep Guardiola breaks silence on Manchester United’s Ruben Amorim appointment

Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, responded to the announcement that Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim had been hired by Man United.

When Manchester City visits Sporting next week, Pep Guardiola will not give new Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim any advise.

Amorim’s hiring was revealed by United on Friday; the Sporting manager will assume leadership on November 11 following the conclusion of his notice period in Portugal. He will coach three more games before leaving the Jose Alvalade Stadium, including Tuesday’s Champions League matchup versus City. That will be his last home game as manager.

After hearing that Amorim was United’s top target, Guardiola lauded him last week. The Blues also have a tie to City, as they have named Amorim’s close colleague Hugo Viana as their next Sporting Director. As a result, there were rumors that City may consider hiring Amorim as their next manager, although those rumors were unfounded.

Amorim will instead attempt to turn United into a powerful force once more, something that five managers have failed to accomplish under Guardiola. On December 15, City will host United in one of Amorim’s first significant games as manager.

On Friday, Guardiola added, “Welcome to England, to United. I’m happy for him, and we’ll talk next Tuesday. I’m not the best person to advise coworkers. Many folks at United are able to provide information about what’s going on there.

Guardiola praised Amorim’s qualifications last week, bringing up City’s 5-0 victory against Sporting in 2021 several times since their most recent trip to Lisbon. Guardiola has frequently stated that the outcome flattered City, who were brutal that day.

“All I can talk about is the experience of playing twice against Ruben’s Sporting Lisbon team, one or two seasons ago, and the pressure was really, really good,” he stated.

“What a high manager. I’ve heard that Man United is considering him since he’s a capable manager. Since Man United never hires managers below that caliber, we cannot claim that they have failed to lead the team during the past five, six, or seven years.

“What will take place? I’m not sure because what transpired during my time here does not necessarily apply to others. The manager is the team, the club, the structures, the players, the doctors, the physiotherapists, and many other things. “Just because something happened here doesn’t mean it will happen somewhere else.”
