Ruben Amorim promptly sought advice from Jose Mourinho when Manchester United approached him, with the Special One encouraging him to accept the position.
The former Red Devils manager continues to be a significant influence on the Sporting Lisbon manager, who is expected to depart his position and succeed Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford. The Manchester hierarchy has promptly secured his services following the Dutchman’s dismissal on Monday.
Amorim has flourished as a manager despite having only been in the dugout for a few years. He has already secured two league titles with Sporting, a feat that was achieved following his apprenticeship at Mourinho’s High Performance Football Coaching course in 2018. He is not yet 40 years old.
Amorim reportedly discussed the possibility of managing the Premier League champions with the Fenerbahce manager, and The Sun reports that the pair remain in contact. Mourinho is believed to have supported Amorim in making the transition.
The Special One has previously stated regarding the Sporting manager, “I believe that he possesses the necessary qualifications to serve as a coach in any league and at any club.”
For several days, Manchester’s most prominent figures have been engaging in discussions with Sporting officials in an effort to secure Amorim’s departure. Initially, their intention was to expedite the procedure in order to ensure that their new manager would be in command of the Chelsea visit this Sunday.
That appears to be becoming less probable, and Amorim himself intends to remain at the Lisbon club until next Tuesday, when he will have the opportunity to confront Manchester City and Pep Guardiola in the Champions League.
In an effort to facilitate Amorim’s departure from Sporting prior to the expiration of his notice period, United is also having to negotiate a financial package. The Portuguese club is also facing an issue with the manager’s desire to bring some of his staff with him. Upon his departure, they intend to advance Carlos Fernandez, Amorim’s assistant.
At present, Manchester is under the leadership of Ruud van Nistelrooy. Ten Hag’s former assistant, the club’s former striker, has temporarily assumed the top position and had an exceptional debut. Leicester was defeated 5-2 by the Red Devils in the Carabao Cup, as they overcame their challenges.
