Jamie Carragher’s opinion of Thomas Tuchel speaks volumes after England appointment

The former manager of Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich has reached an agreement to take over as the next manager of England on a deal that will last for 18 months and begin in January.

According to his past statements about the German coach, Jamie Carragher is a huge supporter of Thomas Tuchel. The former Liverpool and England defender is likely to agree with Tuchel’s appointment as the manager of the Three Lions. Tommy Tuchel is the current coach of the Three Lions.

The individual who has previously held managerial positions at Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich has reached an agreement to take over as the new manager of England on a contract that will last for 18 months and begin in January.

Tuchel is going to be the one to take England into the World Cup in 2026, which will be held in the United States of America, Canada, and Mexico. Carragher will undoubtedly be thrilled to see Tuchel there, as he has stated in the past that he wanted to see him follow Jurgen Klopp at his beloved Liverpool. After it was revealed that Jurgen Klopp would be leaving his position at Anfield at the conclusion of the previous season and would be replaced by Arne Slot, Carragher made it very plain in his piece for The Telegraph that Tuchel would have been his first choice to take over as manager.

“I would have given more thorough consideration to a coach like Thomas Tuchel, who took on and beat Pep Guardiola in the ultimate test – a Champions League final,” Carragher wrote, referring to his victory with Chelsea in the 2021 final. “I would have given more thorough consideration to a coach…”

When Tuchel followed Klopp to Mainz and Borussia Dortmund, he was successful in both positions. It has not been successful for Bayern Munich this season, but if you want to see how good managers bounce back from failures, all you have to do is look at Carlo Ancelotti and Unai Emery.

If any English team were to get Tuchel, it would be enough to convince me that they will make great progress; nevertheless, my impression is that Liverpool does not want a coach who has a reputation for being a contentious individual.

Rather than a coach who would be easier to manage but still has a lot to show, I would rather have a coach who has already established themselves to be successful but who may be challenging to manage. The question that I am most concerned about is whether or not Slot is prepared to compete with Guardiola in the Premier League and the Champions League after moving to England. The fact of the matter is that Slot has had a successful beginning to his tenure at Liverpool. He is now leading the Premier League table, having supervised nine victories from his first ten matches in command across all competitions. Slot is currently spending the international break at the top of the standings.

It is evident that Carragher has a great deal of respect for Tuchel, and it is probable that he will be paying close attention to how he performs with England.
