Edu confirms immediate Arsenal priority after surprise announcement

Edu, the sports director of Arsenal, has stated that the club’s first priority is to find a replacement for Jonas Eidevall, who resigned from his position as head coach of the women’s team after the team didn’t get off to a good start throughout the season.

After serving as the head coach of Arsenal’s women’s team for three and a half years, Jonas Eidevall resigned, and the club is now searching for a new person to fill the position.

And the club’s sports director, Edu Gaspar, has revealed that the club’s first goal right now is to find a successor for the Swede who left the team at the beginning of the Women’s Super League season after she left.

An overhauled Chelsea team defeated the Gunners by a score of 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, leaving them in sixth place in the standings and with only one victory in their last four matches. In addition, Bayern Munich defeated them by a score of 5-2 in the first match of the group stage of the Women’s Champions League.

Due to the fact that Arsenal is already looking for replacements, assistant Renee Sleger has been placed in control of the team temporarily. On Wednesday evening, they will match up against Valerenga in the Champions League, and on Sunday afternoon, they will go to West Ham.

“We thank Jonas for his commitment to the club and achievements here since joining us in 2021,” Edu said after revealing Eidevall’s departure. “We are grateful for his hard work and dedication.”

“We have a great deal of admiration for the devotion and commitment that he demonstrated to our women’s first team, and we acknowledge the role that he has played in the expansion and development of Arsenal Women. We would want to extend our best wishes to him for the future.

Our attention will now go to the process of selecting a new head coach, and in the meantime, we will be providing support to Renee as she assumes temporary leadership of the team, beginning with two crucial matches this week.

During his tenure at Arsenal, Eidevall took the club to the last four of the Champions League and won two League Cups.

Clare Wheatley, who is the Director of Women’s Football, stated, “We would like to extend a particularly heartfelt thank you to Jonas for all of the hard work and dedication he has shown to Arsenal Football Club over the course of the past three years.”

Over the course of the past two seasons, Jonas has been responsible for bringing us back-to-back titles, in addition to a great deal of unforgettable moments on the field.

To Jonas and his family, we hope that the future brings them all the health, happiness, and success that they deserve.

“During this interim period, we have complete faith that Renee will have the ability to take responsibility for the team.”
