Paolo Di Canio says Man Utd chiefs ‘should be arrested’ over transfer decision

Manchester United transferred Scott McTominay to Napoli during the summer transfer window, and former Juventus and Napoli attacker Paolo Di Canio can’t believe the trade was sanctioned.

Paolo Di Canio feels Manchester United’s executives should be arrested for opting to trade Scott McTominay this summer.

The Scotland international departed Old Trafford for Napoli for £27.5 million, while the Red Devils recruited Manuel Ugarte to reinforce their midfield. Prior to his departure, McTominay appeared as a substitute in United’s first two Premier League games.

However, the 27-year-old is already a fan favorite in Italy. The midfielder has a goal and an assist in his previous two games under Antonio Conte, and Napoli is now top of Serie A.

Erik ten Hag has mixed views about McTominay’s departure, and after a promising start, former Sheffield Wednesday, West Ham United, and Charlton striker Di Canio is baffled by the decision to let him go.In an interview with Il Mattino, Di Canio stated, “I would go to those at Manchester United to arrest all the directors – ‘how can you give away McTominay?'”

McTominay, whose diet was reportedly being monitored before the transfer, has been impressed by new manager Conte. The former Juventus, Chelsea, and Inter Milan boss has already stepped up his game.

“Conte’s game is very flexible,” McTominay added. “You don’t simply play one position; you have to develop a variety of skills and absorb the necessary information to assist your colleagues in achieving success. I feel quite comfortable in the position the coach has assigned to me; it helps me achieve the goals we set.”I’ve played in several positions on the pitch, but in midfield, I’ve attacked and defended as number 8s do strategically. I’ve had the opportunity to occupy more areas of the pitch, but always with the goal of assisting my teammates.

“We are quite confident in the group. After each match, we focus on the next game and leave the positive things behind. We are making improvement by listening to the coach and staff and doing what they ask of us.”

Di Canio believes Napoli can win another Italian league title under Conte’s leadership. The 56-year-old believes Juventus and Inter’s current form is beneficial, but Gli Azzurri have the ability to compete anyway.
“If Inter and Juventus continue like this, with these slowdowns, no problems,” he predicted. “They can achieve it even if the others improve, but only if Napoli improves in attacking movements, defensive effort, and nastiness throughout the course of 90 minutes.

“Conte has always done this: he enters shattered places, wrecked by the past and full of disappointment, and resuscitates them. He quickly resolves all issues.

“Today, he is at Juventus, Chelsea, and Inter. He doesn’t arrive after winning the Champions League or a trophy; he arrives where everything is in ruins and must be rebuilt from the ground up. He is a magician, having won when there were only ruins the previous year.
