Carragher rules Liverpool out of title race as he picks winner from Man City and Arsenal

Jamie Carragher says that Liverpool is not in a position to fight for the Premier League title this season. He goes on to say that he thinks Arsenal or Manchester City will win, but he doesn’t say when Arne Slot will be able to taste victory.

This summer, the Reds hired Slot to replace Jurgen Klopp as manager. Klopp had had enough and decided he wanted a break after almost nine years in charge of Liverpool. Since he took over, the Dutchman has mostly done a good job. His team has won five of their six games, scoring 13 goals and letting two slip.

Liverpool won the Premier League title for the last time in 2020. This has given fans hope that they can win it again and that the change of boss has helped the club instead of hurt it.

Even though early signs are still good for Liverpool, Carragher thinks that Manchester City will win the English title again. He doesn’t think that Rodri’s planned season-long layoff will hurt them.

City kept their perfect start going by squeezing out a 2-2 draw with Arsenal on Sunday. Carragher shared his thoughts on the Gary Neville Podcast: “I think it’ll be a little bit similar to last season where Liverpool are just slightly behind these two teams, improving and maybe really going for it next season when the manager knows everything about his squad and he looks at exactly who he wants to bring in.”

He also said this about Liverpool’s lack of success: “He [Slot] hasn’t really bought anyone.” Federico Chiesa is more of a backup player. They did buy a goalie from Valencia, but that’s more for next season, so it’s still the same team from last year.

“What do you think? Liverpool is the third-best team.”

Carragher thinks there isn’t much difference between Arsenal and Manchester City, as shown by their 2-2 draw on Sunday. However, he says Pep Guardiola’s team just

“Every time I look at the teams, I just see how good Manchester City’s attack is.” I know [Martin] Odegaard doesn’t play as well and [Kevin] De Bruyne didn’t play on Sunday, but I think they have a little more in those scoring spots.

“It would have been a set piece goal if Arsenal had held on.” It was clear last week that they’re great at set pieces because they beat Tottenham. But you can’t win every game with set pieces. I believe Manchester City is better in that case.

Not long ago, Neville, Carragher’s coworker, said that Liverpool would not make it into the top six. Now, Carragher is sure that Liverpool will make it into the top four.

“What will the top four look like?” Neville asked while he was on Stick to Football. Everyone agrees that we need to go to Arsenal and Manchester City. I agree that Manchester United should be in the top four. I’m not sure if Liverpool will make it to the top four.

“Do you think Manchester United will get in but Liverpool won’t?” asked Carragher, who was shocked.

Carragher told Neville, “You say this every season without fail,” and Neville said, “Maybe.” “Save this page.”

Neville also said, “Every season, yes.” I’m also wrong a lot of the time. The game is played again during the season, and it’s fun. I’m going to pick Tottenham as the surprise of the season, but it could be anything. Liverpool doesn’t finish in the top six, which is a surprise.

Liverpool chooses an heir to Alexander-Arnold, and Romano gives Zubimendi news.

Liverpool may not be in the running for the title this season, but sources say that the Reds have made a list of possible replacements for Trent Alexander-Arnold in case he is signed by another team.

Another player Slot is said to really want is Bayer Leverkusen’s attack-minded right back Jeremie Frimpong. Frimpong’s deal has an exit clause of €40 million that will be used again next summer.
