£500k Birmingham City midfielder releases an update on his future at the club.

Birmingham City’s rebuilding efforts under Knighthead Capital Management have resulted in significant levels of player turnover at St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park over the last two years, and this could be the case once more this summer.

With the club’s American owners keen for short and long-term success, manager Chris Davies has received consistent support in the four transfer windows he has handled since his appointment in June 2024.

During that time, the Blues broke their transfer record by permanently acquiring Jay Stansfield from Fulham, and they have since continued to splash the cash on several other high-profile names, particularly in attacking areas, to gain a competitive advantage over divisional rivals in their bid to return to the Premier League.

Despite being tipped for a play-off spot before the current Championship season started, Birmingham have, in some respects, flattered to deceive.

14 new players were signed in the summer, followed by six more in January, as the Blues’ team experienced a huge shift at the turn of the year, saying goodbye to several players on the edges of Davies’ starting eleven.

Marc Leonard, a Scottish all-action midfielder, is now on loan at one of his former clubs and SPFL leaders, Hearts.

And, with the summer transfer window approaching, the 24-year-old has revealed where he stands right now in terms of transfer talks.

Marc Leonard has ‘no idea’ about probable permanent Hearts and Birmingham City move.

Leonard has contributed to four wins in his first eight games after returning to Tynecastle Park in January to replace the injured Cammy Devlin in Derek McInnes’ starting lineup, including scoring in a 4-2 loss to Rangers at Ibrox on February 15th.

Despite just being back with the Edinburgh club for less than two months, the midfielder has already made more starts for Hearts this season than he did for Blues in the Championship and EFL Cup during the first half of the season.

A lack of starts has been a recurring trend in Leonard’s time with Blues, dating back to his £500,000 move from Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer of 2024.

The youth international struggled to unseat Paik Seung-ho and Tomoki Iwata from the starting XI in League One, and his chances of regular minutes this season were hampered even more when Tommy Doyle moved on loan from Wolves in July, followed by Jhon Solis’ temporary switch from Girona FC in January.

However, Leonard has subsequently been praised as a ‘godsend’ amid speculation that Hearts would like to reach a permanent agreement with Blues, albeit his wage demands may be a sticking barrier.

When asked about a prospective permanent move, Leonard told the Edinburgh Evening News, “I have no idea.” Look, at the moment, you’ll hear this response everywhere: “I’ve got a few years left at Birmingham, and that’s my focus, so I’ll stick with it.”

Leonard is now under contract with the Blues until June 2028, which means he has two years remaining on his deal this summer.

Marc Leonard would still benefit from Birmingham City exit despite fresh transfer stance

Despite a tough stint in B9, several teams have stayed aware of Leonard’s talent, which might spark a bidding battle this summer.

He was linked with a move to Huddersfield Town in the summer, but it never happened, before it was reported that Sheffield United and Norwich City were interested in the Scot ahead of his temporary move north of the border.

His limited playing time with the Blues has sparked much debate throughout the years. However, it is fair to argue that a permanent exit from St. Andrew’s would benefit his overall career more than returning to a replacement role.
