The 2025 Ballon d’Or award has revealed its 30 nominees. Due to his exclusion from this year’s shortlist, Argentina legend Lionel Messi will not have the chance to win the award for a record-breaking ninth time. Despite Portugal won the UEFA Nations League, Cristiano Ronaldo has also been left off.
The current favourites for the coveted individual prize are Barcelona’s teenage wonder Lamine Yamal and Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembele. Other names in the mix are Mohamed Salah of Liverpool and Egypt, Vitinha of PSG and Portugal, and Raphinha of Barcelona and Brazil.
Scott McTominay of Napoli and Cole Palmer of Chelsea are two of the outsiders nominated for the Ballon d’Or. Palmer was crucial to Chelsea’s FIFA Club World Cup victory, and McTominay won Serie A MVP for leading Napoli to just their fourth Scudetto in history.
