3 Incredible Ways Liverpool Could Line Up in 2025-26

In brief
Liverpool has a wide range of options for their tactics in the next season thanks to their significant summer acquisitions.
There may be more, but Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez have already been included.
There are three possible lineups for Liverpool in the next campaign.
Even though they are the reigning Premier League winners, they aren’t sitting back and enjoying themselves. With Arne Slot assembling a squad that may very well be the favourites to win the title the next season, Liverpool has been one of the busiest teams in the early going of the 2025 summer transfer window.

The Dutchman has already signed Jeremie Frimpong, and the agreements to sign Florian Wirtz, the new club record, and Milos Kerkez are almost finalised. In addition, there are reports that a new number nine and a centre-back would be added to the team to replace Jarell Quansah, who is leaving.

Slot will have access to a depth of strength that is beyond amazing. Additionally, his lineup decisions will undoubtedly change throughout the upcoming year based on fixture congestion and fitness. These are three of the more intriguing methods he could choose to set up, though, if he closes all of the rumoured deals.

Back Three Option

A change in system could be in the offing at Anfield

Even though the Reds mostly used the same lineup the previous season, the new players could offer the winners the opportunity to be a little more adaptable than they were. A strong back three consisting of Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, and goalkeeping mainstay Alisson might be formed with the possible acquisition of Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi.

As wing-backs, Frimpong and Kerkez would have greater leeway to display their offensive prowess and play in a line like to that of the standout midfield tandem of Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch from the previous campaign.

Mohamed Salah would undoubtedly continue to play on the right, serving as the primary goal threat, while Wirtz would occupy the left side of the front three. Slot might also decide to start in the midfield with a floating Luis Diaz instead of a conventional number nine for even more mobility, particularly if a Darwin Nunez departure appears certain.

4-3-3 Returns

Slot has plenty of players to suit his preferred system

Naturally, there is the possibility Slot believes that “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it.” Then the 4-3-3 might stay in place. As Konate and Van Dijk maintain their combination, Conor Bradley might be a better fit at the back than Frimpong.

Although it seems like this is a make-or-break season for the Hungarian, it would also allow Dominik Szoboszlai a chance in a midfield three. Naturally, the other two key players would not be defeated, and Wirtz and Salah would once more occupy positions on each side of the attack.

Who better than Alexander Isak, though, given rumours that a new striker would be on the radar? The Reds might add a new dimension to their already formidable assault if they can entice the Swede, who is already among the finest in the Premier League, to leave St. James’ Park.

4-2-3-1 Sees Wirtz Move Central

The German could play as a number 10

As an alternative, Slot might use a 4-2-3-1 formation to make Wirtz a more common number 10. Goalie Giorgi Mamardashvili, who was signed last summer but returned to Valencia on loan, may be a surprise addition, even though Robertson could continue to play left back and Guehi could pair Van Dijk in the middle. The Georgian is already being considered as Alisson’s long-term replacement; if the Brazilian suffers from injury, the new custodian may be given an opportunity.

Cody Gakpo, who had periods last season where he looked extremely threatening, might solidify a position on the left side with Wirtz moving to the ten. Digo Jota has earned a spot at the top of this XI as well because it is likely that he will stay if Nunez leaves.
