£195k-p/w Chelsea Star Disappoints in 2-1 FA Cup Loss to Brighton

After Brighton & Hove Albion eliminated Chelsea from the FA Cup on Saturday night, Chelsea supporters have had enough of one player. The two teams faced off at American Express Stadium, and although Bart Verbruggen’s own goal gave them an early lead, Enzo Maresca’s team was eliminated in the fourth round. Georginio Rutter and Kaoru Mitoma’s goals helped the home team turn the tide, and they will now go into the fifth round draw.

Chelsea had a difficult evening and saw a sharp decline in their hopes of taking home trophies this season. The Blues’ only realistic chance to win a trophy is to win the UEFA Conference League, as they are now 13 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool and have already been eliminated from the Carabao Cup.

Supporters will undoubtedly be furious with the team’s early FA Cup departure, but they are particularly upset about one player, Christopher Nkunku.

Nkunku’s Performance Against Brighton

Nkunku was viewed as a huge acquisition for Chelsea when they brought him to Stamford Bridge in 2023 after he made an impression at RB Leipzig, but things haven’t gone well since. The forward had to wait months for his first appearance due to injuries, and now that he’s healthy, he hasn’t had much of an impact on the team and has struggled to get regular minutes, so performances like the one against Brighton won’t help him either. Even though the £195,000-per-week star finished the game with a 100% pass success rate, Chelsea supporters were nonetheless dissatisfied with his performance and quickly vented their frustrations on social media.

Supporters of Chelsea on Nkunku

Chelsea supporters took notice of the performance and weren’t hesitant to express their thoughts about Nkunku on social media. “May as well play with 10 players since Nkunku is a ghost,” a fan wrote on X (Twitter). One person wrote: “Nkunku is ghosting like crazy,” while another said: “This is what happens when you fail to sign another striker.”

However, they were not the only fans who criticised his game. “Nkunku should just leave this club,” said another fan who had had enough, while a fourth fan said simply, “Nkunku link up with this team is awful.”

According to a fifth fan, the striker is “lazy,” writing on social media, “Nkunku is one lazy player.” “Never seen a lazy player than Nkunku, Morata was way better,” added another, echoing that sentiment.
