In brief
The most coveted individual award a football player can receive is the Super Ballon d’Or, which was only given out in 1989.
There have been rumors that 2029 will be the Super Ballon d’Or’s second-ever presentation.
The ten most probable winners of the second Super Ballon d’Or are listed here.
One of the best awards a football player can receive, if not the best, is the Ballon d’Or. It was first created in 1956 to honor the top player in Europe, but in 1995 it was broadened to include athletes from any country who were playing for a European team. Every year, at a special banquet attended by the biggest figures in football, both past and present, the award is given to the player who has played the best during the prior 12 months.
Even while it’s a fantastic honor, just think of the privilege it would be to be named the unquestioned best football player of your generation. In 1989, Real Madrid great Alfredo Di Stefano won the Super Ballon d’Or for being the best player of the previous 30 years, surpassing Michel Platini and Johan Cruyff in the process.
We have selected the top 10 most likely contenders to win the once-in-a-lifetime prize based on their performance during the last 40 years, as the award’s 40th anniversary approaches in 2029.
10Xavi
Notable Clubs: Barcelona, Al-Sadd SC

One of the most iconic figures in Spanish football during a period of dominance was Xavi, a famous figure in the middle of the field. Whether it was Barcelona becoming unstoppable under Pep Guardiola or the national team winning three major championships in a row, the club’s future manager was always there to take charge.
With 767 appearances for the Catalan team, Xavi ranks second all-time and second in assists. It’s possible that other staff members nearby to the 45-year-old occasionally eclipsed him. The perfection of this man’s artistry is evident to those who genuinely appreciate the lovely game.

9Luka Modric
Notable Clubs: Dinamo Zagreb, Tottenham, Real Madrid

One may argue that Luka Modric is the best Croatian footballer of all time. That is quite an honor considering the excellent players they have had over the years. His more than 800 club appearances over the past 24 years demonstrate his longevity and drive to stay at the top.
The midfield guru has won six European championships with Real Madrid, but it was his Croatian performances at the 2018 World Cup, where his team placed second, that put an end to Messi and Ronaldo’s hegemony. He was named the world’s best footballer that year, becoming the first person to do so outside of the aforementioned duopoly in ten years.

8Gianluigi Buffon
Notable Clubs: Parma, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain

Few players ever get close to touching the great Gianluigi Buffon between the sticks. Perhaps the Italian stallion would be shattering the glass roof and gaining even more ground if the odds were in favor of goalkeepers taking home individual honors.
Buffon accumulated nearly every trophy that was available to him. Naturally, the Champions League was the major one that escaped his protective grasp. He is still one of the most well-known figures who has never lifted the renowned trophy, but it shouldn’t take away from the fact that he broke numerous records and is more than worthy of being included in such prestigious company. It’s difficult to remain at the top in any role, much less one that calls for such quick thinking and foresight, but Buffon overcame the odds and remained at the top for thirty years.

7Andres Iniesta
Notable Clubs: Barcelona, Vissel Kobe, Emirates Club

Andres Iniesta spent the most of the renowned Guardiola period at Camp Nou working with Xavi in the engine room. The 41-year-old is entitled to every honor that was bestowed upon his equal. He does, however, have one or two other accolades that put him a few points higher.
First off, despite very fierce competition, Iniesta was named the greatest player in Europe in 2012. However, he scored the goal to win La Roja their first World Cup in 2010, which is his most well-known moment. The playmaker would have been regarded as one of the best Spain internationals in history if his influence on Spanish football hadn’t been documented in the history books without that goal in the 116th minute.
